Choosing the right light bulb is almost as important as choosing the light fixture, different bulbs can give your room ambience and character. We have put together this guide, which gives you the key things to consider to help choose the perfect bulbs for your home or workplace.

Which cap fitting do you need?

When you purchase your new fitting or shade, they will contain instructions which will tell you the style of fitting you need. Make sure you check this, otherwise if you buy the wrong cap fitting, your light will not work.

Which type of bulb should you choose?

There are 3 main types of bulb, these are Halogen, Energy Saving (CFL) and LED. They all have different qualities, lifespans and energy saving abilities.

Halogen: 30% energy saving*, 2 year lifespan, instant, crisp & bright light.

Energy Saving (CFL): 80% energy saving*, 10 year life span, warm soft light.

LED: 90% energy saving*, 25 year lifespan, crisp & bright light.

*Compared against traditional incandescent bulbs.

How to select the brightness of your new bulbs

Lumens vs Wattage

Wattage is the amount of power needed to light a bulb. Lumens refer to the level of brightness that the bulb produces.

Traditionally, a higher wattage always meant a brighter bulb. However, due to the introduction of newer technologies (Halogen, Energy Savers (CFL) and LED), you can now produce the same amount of light using far less energy (wattage) and money. To know how much light a bulb produces, we now use lumens to measure brightness.

Our sales team can advise you with what lumens you require for your new light fittings.
